About the Band
Built on a foundation of jazz, but never staying within conventional genre boundaries, Blue House fuses elements of many styles to create a funky-fresh spin on party music.
Founded in 2015 by collegiate music students at Minot State University, Blue House began as a traditional jazz combo, playing local bars, coffee shops, and private events for extra cash during school. After its initial conception, saxophonist, vocalist, and bandleader, Erik Mychal Anderson, wanted to push their music further into funkier and more eclectic territory. An experienced composer, he began writing songs for the band, including the fan favorite, Dothraki Thunder Funk.
After college, the band went through many iterations and membership changes. Its current lineup includes Erik as bandleader, Paul Nason on bass, Kimberly Vandal on flute and saxophone, Kevin Vandal on keys, Konnor Guthrie on Guitar, and Miles Anderson, an original member, on drums. The group has collaborated with other artists, including Grammy Award-Winning singer, Haddaway, for whom the band played under for live concert footage shot for the reality TV series, American Honey, streaming on Tubi. They have also collaborated several times with North Dakota rapper, Dakotah Faye, who will make guest appearances on their upcoming debut album to be released winter of 2026.
